Research Technicians
University of Utah Health Research is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Gregory Ducker focused on quantitative mammalian metabolism. The role involves performing technical procedures in a research laboratory, working with animals, and applying standard scientific techniques under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
Closely work with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommend modifications as needed
Perform specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment
Supervise the care of research animals; perform animal surgeries and/ or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis
Utilize aseptic technique for successful experiments in mammalian tissue culture
Prepare, operate and analyze data from a mass spectrometer
Prepare equipment and rooms for experiments and general lab organization
Conduct literature reviews to obtain information necessary for research
Maintain excellent records, both written and electronic, of all procedures and experiments
Make statistical calculations, analyze data and prepare reports summarizing results
May assist with preparing budgets, protocols, and grant applications
Standard molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR and bacterial culture, isolation of DNA / RNA /protein, immunoblot, mammalian cell culture and cell assays, lentiviral production and infection, preparation of standard solutions and buffers, animal husbandry, animal surgeries and survival procedures, and complex data and statistical analyses
Qualification
Required
1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience)
Willingness to work with laboratory animals is a requirement
Preferred
B.S. or higher in chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology
A demonstrated track record of excellence in laboratory techniques is required
Previous laboratory experience working with laboratory animals or mass spectrometry is HIGHLY desired
Demonstrated excellence in laboratory research during or after undergraduate studies
Good working knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, organic chemistry
Basic programming and statistical analyses skills
Demonstrated experience in oral and written scientific communication
Demonstrated initiative, curiosity and dedication to scientific research
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
