Responsibilities
Will need someone that has a lot of experience with hazardous and biological waste and chemical management and chemical waste management
Someone knowledgeable of San Diego county HAZMAT and CERS – online portal for County Hazmat – someone is well versed in chemicals, spill response, chemical and biological waste management
Training – is a big need that we need to improve for existing EE’s and for new employees
Looking to create more robust training
Compliance/Reporting/Inspections – have various regulating agencies – most frequently we have inspections by County HAZMAT, Fire department. CAL OSHA
Might have storm water in the future
Also will need to conduct internal inspections so that we are ready for agency inspections
Incident responses will also focus on– in 2025 we had about 13 incidents but nothing really major
Key experience/background needed: biotech experience needed, lab background, understanding of chemicals – biohazardous waste
Facilities management, lock-out/tag out
GMP and vivarium experience is preferred
Key behaviors/soft skills needed: strong communication- will work with all departments from research through manufacturing; good organization capabilities, ability to multi-task
Qualification
Required
Experience with hazardous and biological waste and chemical management
Knowledge of San Diego county HAZMAT and CERS
Well versed in chemicals, spill response, chemical and biological waste management
Ability to improve training for existing employees and new employees
Experience administering in-person training
Compliance with various regulating agencies including County HAZMAT, Fire department, CAL OSHA
Conduct internal inspections for agency readiness
Incident response experience
Biotech experience
Lab background
Understanding of chemicals and biohazardous waste
Facilities management experience
Lock-out/tag out experience
Strong communication skills
Good organization capabilities
Ability to multi-task
Preferred
GMP experience
