Responsibilities
Review and approve internally or privately prepared signing and pavement marking plans, specifications, & estimates (PS&E) packages, encroachment agreements, and purchase order contracts
Review or approve preliminary and final design concepts, quantity estimates, and specifications to measure compliance with state and federal guidelines, using design software for sign messages and sign supports
Review complex signing and pavement marking plans with the Roadway Design Unit to ensure highway design elements meet federal guidelines regarding traffic flow and lane continuity
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including three (3) years of supervisory experience
Thorough knowledge and interpretation of local, state, and federal rules and regulations governing the area of signing and delineation
Experience supervising permanent employees, contractors and/or consultants
Experience communicating major and/or complex situations and actions, internal and external to the organization
Thorough knowledge of interpreting professional engineering theory, techniques, practices and procedures, organizational structure, and/or extraneous factors or implications
Experience reviewing and approving work often regarding more complex or unique issues
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
