Responsibilities

Provide employment related advice and counseling to nonprofit organizational clients
Advise clients about their legal obligations and help craft strategies for handling complicated employee matters
Draft employment related materials and review personnel policies and handbooks
Provide legal advice in other areas of nonprofit organization operations, such as structural and governance issues, contractual relationships, and non-discrimination obligations

Required

Seven or more years of employment and/or labor law experience
Experience providing counseling and advice
Experience with a broad range of employment law topics, such as anti-discrimination and anti-harassment law, wage and hour law, family and medical leave and sick and safe leave laws, obligations under express and implied employment contracts, and best practices for handling discipline and separations
Motivated self-starters with strong academic credentials
Excellent writing and communication skills
Sound judgment and the ability to handle complicated matters with minimal supervision
Ability to make judgment calls, assess available strategies and options, and provide feedback and guidance
Strong attention to detail
Comfortable managing multiple and varied client requests
Ability to quickly digest and provide advice regarding new state and federal laws
Member of or eligible for admission to the DC Bar

Preferred

Experience with employee benefits or labor law
Experience with nonprofit organizations and their operational issues
