Start in 2026 SummerCACI International Inc is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join their Spectrum Superiority division, supporting their photonics team. The internship involves assisting with the packaging and integration of optical systems for various applications, ensuring peak performance through design, analysis, and simulation.

Responsibilities
Design the packaging for complex subsystems with optical, photonic, optoelectronic, electrical, and mechanical elements for R&D and production programs for U.S. government customers
Produce build-to drawings and data packages
Support the effort to transition the design into limited volume production (both on-site and at other locations), including development of assembly processes and writing of build procedures
Utilize rapid prototyping (3D printing, laser/waterjet cutting) to produce both quick-turn models for demonstration and functional fixturing/tooling
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearance
Familiarity with and interest in 3D modeling, CAD, and rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, ability to work independently
Strong interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills
Perform other duties as required
Preferred
Experience using SolidWorks design environment and PDM
Experience with electronics packaging
Experience with thermal and stress/strain modeling
Familiarity with optical physics fundamentals
Experience with Aerospace Engineering
