Associate Director for Academic Advising

Responsibilities
Creating and executing innovative initiatives that support academic advising and student success
Supporting team members in setting and achieving goals that align with the center's overall strategic objectives
Enhancing the engagement strategies of the Newnan Academic Advising Center
Carrying an advising caseload and providing general academic advising support to students
Collaborating with a team of academic advisors to provide support for students in LSA
Developing and implementing advising information, workshops, and initiatives
Providing support, accountability, training, and resources to help advisors effectively promote student success
Leading the onboarding of new advising staff and assisting in the hiring process as needed
Researching, developing, and implementing innovative advising strategies and leading initiatives to support advisor professional development
Contributing to the evaluation and assessment of advising services and initiatives using metrics to inform improvements
Overseeing staff participation in student engagement activities hosted by the unit
Directly supervising assigned professional staff and leading the year-round performance management process
Meeting regularly with direct reports to set goals in alignment with the unit's mission
Coaching advisors in responding to complex student and parent situations
Representing Newnan and the College at events that support students, parents, and campus or community partners
Maintaining timely and accurate records of student interactions and decisions affecting degree progress
Reviewing, troubleshooting, and resolving student concerns related to academic progress, degree exceptions, and graduation requirements
Staying current on advising best practices, LSA policies, and professional development opportunities
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in a liberal arts field, higher education, communications, or area of study affording understanding of the undergraduate student experience
At least three years academic advising experience in a college or university setting or an equivalent combination of experience in other sectors of education
Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and develop staff
Track record of successful development and implementation of innovative programs, including evaluation and assessment
Proven ability to successfully work in a collaborative team environment
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with students, staff, and faculty
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential materials and student information
