Commercial Underwriter III

Busey is seeking a Commercial Underwriter III to provide accurate and timely credit underwriting to support portfolio management and new business development. The role includes managing a team of Commercial Underwriters, reviewing loan presentations, and assisting in the sales process while ensuring compliance with the Commercial Banking Loan Policy.

Responsibilities

Manage and provide leadership and guidance to Commercial Underwriters, including hiring, training, mentoring and on-going professional development efforts
Motivate and lead a high performing team; attract, recruit, and retain team members
Review loan presentations for accuracy and completeness and coach Commercial Underwriters on any errors or areas for improvement
Cleary communicate performance expectations to team members and address any deficiencies in a timely manner
Conduct meetings with team to discuss emerging issues, pipeline management, and workloads
Assist Commercial Relationship Managers with the preparation of opportunity memos for new and existing relationships
Work with Commercial Relationship Managers or other Lending staff to prepare clear and concise Commercial Credit Approval Request (CCAR) memos that include all pertinent information associated with the overall risk of the loan, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the Borrower and/or collateral
Assist with Portfolio Management duties to include testing financial covenants and preparing portfolio reviews and sensitive asset reports, as assigned
Maintain a working knowledge of the Commercial Banking Loan Policy and systems, including nCino
Assist in the sales process, including accompanying Relationship Managers on customer and prospect calls
Approve loans that are within defined authority levels; recommend loans for approval that are in excess of defined authority levels
Participate in pipeline meetings to develop knowledge of prospective opportunities as well as upcoming renewals
Provide recommendations and day-to-day guidance on new and existing workflow processes, policies, and procedures
Assist with other duties or special projects as assigned

Required

Requires Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Business or Finance
Requires 7 or more years of Commercial Credit experience
Requires 2 or more years of experience in Commercial Underwriter role
Leadership skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Teamwork and collaboration skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of financial accounting
Experience utilizing CoStar
Strong ability to analyze financial data, market trends, and evaluate risk factors
Ability to multi-task and work independently
Ability to analyze and solve problems
Ability to take independent action within established guidelines and develop new procedures and approaches when needed
Ability to perform duties under frequent time pressures
