Senior Manager, Investment Tax

Responsibilities

Manages Article 63 (EU Reclaim) process with external tax advisors to ensure timely filing with respective EU country and proper allocation of refunds received
Leads preparation and review of US and international tax surveys, filings and checklists
Recommends investment product solutions through thoughtful analyses for client interest in Dimensional’s global product offerings
Stays abreast of current tax, accounting and reporting developments in the asset management industry
Researches complex tax matters and determines impact to global trade operations
Communicates effectively with internal Accounting/Finance group members
Works with both the sales and portfolio management teams in creating client responses to investment related or security specific inquiries
Collaborates with Fund Finance to ensure invoices are allocated to the appropriate investment product
Manages delivery of key portfolio management information to internal parties including preparation of Investment Committee materials
Creates tax educational resources for the firm as part of a value-add initiative
Manages and contributes to ad hoc projects, as needed
Provides analysis of the tax impact to the funds in relation to management of the portfolio and investment strategy
Reviews and provides guidance, as necessary, with final recommendations for any inquiries related to trading and/or corporate action or complex transactions and assists portfolio management including review of all supporting documentation requirements
Leads planning and maintenance of global regulatory initiatives, i.e., FATCA, CRS, and BEPS
Represents the investment tax team and provides guidance as part of new product or fund launch
Partners with Head of Investment Tax in special projects related to both US and non-US jurisdictions
Builds positive working relationships with third-party service providers to achieve consistent results
Leads, manages, and motivates employees. Supports a positive employee experience/engagement and culture
Establishes and effectively communicates the team’s objectives and goals. Includes setting individual employee objectives/goals and aligning them with the team’s goals
Plans and organizes workflows. Schedules, assigns, and delegates work/projects to members of the team or external vendors accordingly
Manages performance. Monitors progress and ensures goals are met. Trains, develops, and coaches team members. Assures the team adheres to company values and policies. Provides feedback; addresses unsatisfactory employee performance, behaviors, and/or attendance

Identifies opportunities to streamline processes and improve controls to create a more efficient operating model

Leads the team through the design and adoption of standard operating procedures and best practices. Drives to continuous business/process improvement and efficiency
Collaborates with the Fund Finance Management team to evolve investment tax services to better meet the needs of the business today and into the future, assists in trade-off decisions and team dynamics
Ensures both procedural and process documentation are complete and current
Innovates through new and existing technologies, along with experimenting with digitization solutions
Aids in planning and development of systems supporting tax calculations for global fund structures
Ensures deliverable/results are achieved on time with high quality
Assigns work and deploys talent. Develops time management best practices

Manages relationships with key stakeholders
Monitors and/or reviews tax reporting and compliance as prepared by tax service providers and fund administrators
Serves as a key point of contact for external communication related to client inquiries as well as internal explanations of complex tax concepts
Assists in the annual and semiannual financial reporting cycles with Fund Finance with respect to the independent auditors and matters relating to cross border trading
Manages vendor relationship utilization
Ensures timely processing of vendor invoices
Coordinates vendor contract approval process with the Legal Department

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Tax
10-12+ years of experience in a tax specialist role in the Investment Management industry
Strong working knowledge of US mutual fund and ETF structure and operations regulated under the 1940-Act, Subchapter M of the Internal Revenue code
Exposure to non-US fund structures including Canadian, UK, Irish, and Australian fund structures
Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment
Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to articulate and present a clear point of view on technical matters in clear, concise, and meaningful communications for various levels of the organization
Excellent time management and organizational/project management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Successful history of executing on strategic and operational initiatives
Advanced Microsoft/Excel skills with ability to drive high quality financial presentations
Stays current and adapts to changes in the regulatory and technological environment
Strong research and analytical skills including the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to draw conclusions and assist on decision making. Exercises independent judgment
Experience managing/leading employees with a track record of building, leading, and developing high-performing teams
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential, sensitive, and non-public information with discretion
Ability to build key relationships within Finance and other professionals across the organization. Highly motivated, participative, and collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
