Responsibilities
Evolving knowledge of basic engineering principles, material properties, and a familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance procedures
Calculates costs and time schedules for proposed work
Participate in defining project budget and scope
Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
Preparation of studies, reports, plans, cost estimates, specifications for bidding and construction, review shop drawing
Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects
Answers questions and gives daily guidance to project team and/or other departmental staff
Checks all technical work for accuracy
Recognizes problems quickly and seeks advice
May participate in preparing proposals and in presentations to clients
Performs structural design for concrete, masonry, wood and steel structures
Devises new approaches to problems encountered
Perform complex design calculations and custom detailing
Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to junior staff
May participate in preparing proposals and in presentations to clients
