Watershed Systems Coordinator (Water Resources Engineer)
The Mississippi Watershed Management Organization is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to serve as our Watershed Systems Coordinator. The role involves managing watershed-wide hydrologic/hydraulic and water quality models, performing analyses, and providing support to project managers and planners for stormwater and ecosystem improvement projects.

Responsibilities
Coordinate the internal digital organization and maintenance of large models and GIS data (XPSWMM, PCSWMM, P8, MIDS, ArcPro)
Develop and administer a program to keep models up to date with new developments and redevelopments in the watershed, coordinating with member cities and engineering consultants
Prepare ArcGIS desktop (geographic information system) analyses, including using district-wide modeling results to assist with strategic planning and the determination of when and where to conduct feasibility studies with engineering consultants that could lead to cost-effective stormwater improvement projects of hiring
Develop and manage datasets and maps within ArcGIS to support planning and implementation activities
Review hydrologic/hydraulic (H/H) analyses and water quality calculations submitted by grant applicants, consultants, and partners
Coordinate with consultants on watershed-wide model conversion effort from XPSWMM to PCSWMM
Review and advise on modeling methodologies; planning and feasibility study results; and project designs
Provide technical assistance to MWMO planners and project managers: including construction observation, drafting scopes, contracts, and paying invoices
Prepare working maps, viewers, or figures using software such as ArcPro and Powerpoint for internal strategic initiatives and presentations
Coordinate with MWMO monitoring and planning staff, as well as consultants, on model calibration efforts
Review construction plan sets and engineering drawings
Participate as a member of staff teams across all areas of the organization. Model team behavior, i.e. work cooperatively and collaboratively; contribute ideas; provide and receive feedback in a constructive manner; deliver work products on time; and support others’ work products
Ensure project coordination and communications internally with MWMO staff
Ensure individual areas of expertise and related skills are developed, maintained, and demonstrated through approved continuing education, special assignments, research, and self-directed study
Develop annual position-specific work plan in consultation with the supervisor to ensure understanding and agreement on position responsibilities and expectations. Contribute to other annual work planning processes that impact the organization as a whole
Perform miscellaneous office duties such as answering telephones, providing office support, etc., as required. Keep office space in a clean and publicly presentable condition
Perform projects and other responsibilities as assigned
Orient new employees to organizational programs and team concepts
Conduct portions of training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed
Qualification
Required
Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, water resources engineering, or watershed science, with an understanding of and experience using hydrologic/hydraulic and water quality models, the design and construction of stormwater management projects and practices, project/budget management, field inspection, and using GIS tools to assess land use, land cover, and environmental conditions
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, water resources engineering, biosystems engineering, watershed science, or related field
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc
Working knowledge and understanding of geographic information systems (GIS), hydrologic/hydraulic and water quality modeling, and their use in watershed planning
Valid Driver's License
Preferred
Ability to analyze technical reports
Familiarity with green stormwater infrastructure such as riparian vegetative buffer zones, rain gardens, and rainwater harvesting systems
Experience coordinating meetings and events
Ability to work effectively with considerable independence, yet also within a highly collaborative environment
Confidence leading and speaking in front of groups
Knack for communicating scientific concepts to a general audience
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines
High interest and initiative to advance the mission of the organization in creative, meaningful and tangible ways
Work completed towards a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E a plus, but not required)
