Director, Litigation (Patents)

Responsibilities
Accountable for executing litigation strategy for assigned patent, licensing, and related commercial matters, in alignment with broader legal and business objectives
Lead and be accountable for U.S. and international litigation matters, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation; provide strategic direction to outside counsel to ensure quality, timeliness, and cost control
Accountable for strategy and execution of inter partes reviews and other post-grant patent challenges, including oversight of outside counsel
Lead pre-litigation assessments and make recommendations and decisions within defined authority regarding enforcement, settlement, licensing resolutions, or trial actions
Provide deep technical support, including patent mining, claim chart review, and generation
Collaborate cross-functionally with technical, IP, and business stakeholders to align litigation strategy with business objectives
Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements across jurisdictions
Monitor external legal and regulatory trends that may impact Adeia’s IP litigation and adjust strategy accordingly
Support litigation budget planning, forecasting, and cost management
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school (required)
Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; admission to federal courts (required)
8–12+ years of patent litigation experience, including in-house and/or law firm experience (required)
Technical or scientific background, preferably in electronics, semiconductors, or computer science (required)
Extensive experience handling patent infringement and invalidity analysis (required)
Experience supervising outside counsel in inter partes reviews (IPRs) or similar post-grant proceedings (required)
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and resolve complex legal, business, and risk tradeoffs
Preferred
Experience with U.S. International Trade Commission investigations
Experience with international or cross-border patent enforcement
Experience with commercial and trade secret litigation
Experience managing litigation budgets and providing business-oriented legal advice
