Traffic Systems Admin I or II (Traffic Management System Floor Supervisor - TranStar)
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Traffic Management System Floor Supervisor to join their team at Houston TranStar. In this critical leadership role, you will supervise the Traffic Management Center control room staff and ensure continuous monitoring of Houston-area roadways using advanced Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies.

Responsibilities
Maintains liaison with the Traffic Operations Division concerning traffic safety and/or ITS issues
Meets with TxDOT staff and local governmental officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions
Monitors traffic management systems, including video and electronic displays, and responds to traffic conditions
Oversees specific traffic systems-related programs
Prepares, coordinates and monitors consultant contract administration for traffic systems and ITS
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Participates in TxDOT research projects
Provides technical assistance and support for ITS
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis
Traffic Systems Admin I: 2 years construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic systems maintenance/management, transportation engineering, design, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Traffic Systems Admin II: 3 years construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic systems maintenance/management, transportation engineering, design, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Traffic Systems Admin I: Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience
Traffic Systems Admin II: Must have 2 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Traffic Systems Admin I: Extensive knowledge of the relationship of traffic control equipment to the operation of a traffic management system
Traffic Systems Admin I: Considerable knowledge of Intelligent transportation and traffic management systems
Traffic Systems Admin I: Considerable knowledge of applicable ITS related computer applications and operations
Traffic Systems Admin I: Proficient skill in supervising technical staff
Traffic Systems Admin I: Proficient skill in public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
Traffic Systems Admin I: Proficient skill in planning, assigning, directing, coordinating and reviewing the work of professional, administrative and technical employees
Traffic Systems Admin I: Proficient skill in analyzing and organizing business and technical data
Traffic Systems Admin I: Proficient skill in using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
Traffic Systems Admin I: Delegates both routine and important tasks and decisions; shares authority but has ultimate accountability
Traffic Systems Admin II: Extensive knowledge of Intelligent transportation and traffic management systems
Traffic Systems Admin II: Proficient skill in directing and establishing objectives; clarifying roles and responsibilities through individual performance plans; monitoring and measuring performance against goals; evaluating results and making necessary adjustments to meet deadlines
Traffic Systems Admin II: Proficient skill in public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing
To be selected for and continue employment in this position, the selected incumbent must maintain the security or integrity of the agency's critical infrastructure and will be subject to regular assessments of criminal history and/or reviewed for connections to foreign adversaries
This position is considered to be an essential employee. This candidate must be willing to work hours outside of M-F, 8am-5pm
