Lab/Research Technician

The University of Vermont is seeking a Lab/Research Technician to join the Thali laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. The role involves conducting scientific experiments, including cell culture, molecular techniques, and working with live HIV-1-infected cells, while collaborating with the supervisor on research goals and data discussions.

Responsibilities

Conduct scientific experiments in the Thali laboratory
Perform cell and tissue culture-related methods
Utilize molecular and biochemical techniques, microscopy, and flow cytometry
Plan and conduct day-to-day experiments independently after training

Required

Bachelor's degree in a biomedical field required
A minimum of three semesters (or 12 months) of experience working in a research laboratory for at least 12 hours per week
Must be able to prioritize tasks, develop and maintain reasonable schedules for completion of work, and provide routine communication with supervisors regarding progress and scheduling
Commitment to professionalism, inclusivity, and respect for others

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, and at least six semesters (or 24 months) of prior research laboratory experience
Experience working with human specimens and general molecular biology, virology and microbiology techniques, including cell culture
Excellent math skills, computer skills, organization and record-keeping mandatory
Ability to function independently
