X-Ray Inspector

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest agencies in the state, responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all North Carolinians. The X-Ray Inspector conducts on-site inspections of medical and industrial radiation machines to ensure compliance with safety regulations and prepares technical reports of inspection findings.

Responsibilities

Conduct on site X-Ray inspections for medical and industrial radiation machines
Work independently to conduct inspections, investigations and to evaluate safe use of various types of radiation machines in various environments
Determine compliance with 10A NCAC 15 North Carolina Regulations for Protection Against Radiation
Prepare technical reports of inspection findings, tracking and review of records for compliance
Maintain current inspection and registration databases for assigned region
Serve as a member of the State Emergency Response Team as required by Homeland Security
Attend continuing education classes and training to maintain current knowledge of radiologic hazards, public safety and agency needs

Required

Bachelor's degree in nuclear science, physical, or environmental science; health/ medical physics, or radiologic science from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Preferred

Documented and demonstrated knowledge of the biological effects, principles and physics of radiation as related to practice standards, and principles of radiation in medicine, industry and education
Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate orally and in written form technical data and inspection findings related to radiation safety and compliance inspections
Proven experience working with state rules and federal regulations for compliance in radiation safety
Functional knowledge of radiation detection equipment, radiation machine operations and radiation testing instrumentation
Demonstrated skills for planning and organizing multiple projects with minimum direction, establishing priorities to meet deadlines
Must be proficient with Microsoft applications
Currently qualified and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology
