Paralegal - Human Services

Jefferson County, Colorado is seeking a Paralegal for the Human Services Litigation Team of the County Attorney's Office. The role involves providing legal representation and advice on various human services matters and supporting the attorneys with litigation paralegal work, particularly in preparing and organizing documents for electronic discovery.

Responsibilities

Preparing legal files for court hearings
Direct contact with the public, caseworkers, therapists, opposing attorneys, pro-se parents, and the Court
Filing time sensitive documents
Assisting with trial preparation
Preparing correspondence and a variety of legal documents
Electronic filing of state court documents
Drafting routine pleadings in state court
Preparing, reviewing and organizing documents for electronic discovery
Redacting, numbering and compiling files
Drafting privilege logs
Performing a variety of clerical functions to relieve attorneys of day-to-day administrative functions of the office
Other duties as assigned

Required

A minimum of one year of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis

Preferred

Paralegal certificate or associate degree and 3 years of related work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis
Prior experience working in a law office or legal department
Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and experience with electronic discovery and electronic court filing preferred
Strong written and oral communication
Independent critical thinking and analysis
Strong problem-solving aptitude
Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint etc.) Adobe Acrobat Pro and experiment with new software and systems
Ability to read and interpret statutes and legislation
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Attention to detail and deadlines
