Soils Laboratory Intern – Summer 2026
WSP USA is hosting a summer internship program for students to gain hands-on experience in engineering. The Soils Laboratory Intern will support various engineering tasks, learn principles of Civil, Environmental, and Geotechnical Engineering, and assist with laboratory operations.

Responsibilities
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of Civil, Environmental, and Geotechnical Engineering
Assist with receiving, sorting, labeling, preparing, testing, handling and disposing of test samples as directed
Support preparation of test results, special provisions, and cost estimates
Assist in monitoring the progress of tests until completion and recording all relevant data and observations
Assist in cleaning and maintaining the laboratory and laboratory equipment
Provide general support to laboratory, field, and office personnel
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Occasional travel to Michigan client sites may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Qualification
Required
Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship
Preferred
Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD Civil 3D or other civil engineering design/modeling software
Experience with any type of construction, not necessarily Civil Engineering related, as a builder, laborer, or related
Current 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, or current 8-hour refresher
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
