Controller
Calaway Habeck Talent Consulting is seeking a Controller for Florida Energy, Water and Air (FEWA), a leading provider of home comfort and efficiency solutions. The Controller will play a strategic role in overseeing full-cycle accounting, driving profitability insights, and supporting the company's growth initiatives.
Responsibilities
Own full-cycle accounting: timely month-end/quarter-end/year-end closes, consolidated financial reporting, and accurate GAAP-compliant statements across multiple entities and locations
Master revenue recognition complexities — percentage-of-completion for installations, service contracts, product sales, financing arrangements, and performance incentives (federal solar tax credits, utility rebates, energy efficiency programs)
Build and refine detailed product-line and job-level profitability analytics — solar vs. HVAC vs. water treatment vs. water heaters — to inform pricing, vendor negotiations, sales channel strategy, and resource allocation
Lead sophisticated cash flow forecasting and working capital management in a business with variable installation cycles, seasonal demand (Florida summers!), long vendor terms, and delayed rebate/incentive receipts
Strengthen internal controls, inventory management (equipment & parts), job costing accuracy, subcontractor/vendor payments, and fraud prevention across field operations and retail partnerships
Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Installation, and Service teams to implement robust tracking, variance analysis, and KPI dashboards that influence field performance and customer acquisition costs
Oversee multi-jurisdiction compliance (Florida county sales/use tax nuances, multi-state nexus, energy-specific credits) and all regulatory filings
Prepare executive-ready financial packages, board reporting, and investor materials — turning data into compelling narratives that support growth strategy and potential M&A
Evaluate, optimize, and lead transitions in financial systems (ERP, field service integration, automation of incentive tracking)
Mentor and develop a growing accounting/finance team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Act as a strategic challenger — identify profit leaks, propose innovative financing models, and drive efficiency in a company that's both established (30+ years) and aggressively expanding

Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required
8 to 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years as Controller or equivalent in a mid-sized, growth-oriented organization
Direct experience in one or more of: home services contracting, HVAC/solar installation, construction/project-based services, or consumer durables with installation
Strong knowledge of service contract accounting
ERP systems experience including module upgrades (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks Enterprise, or industry-specific platforms) and integrating with field service/CRM tools
Familiarity with incentive/rebate ecosystems, multi-location tax compliance, and inventory-heavy operations is highly valuable
Coordinate the annual external audit
Advanced Excel/financial modeling
Preferred
CPA preferred
Power BI, Tableau, or similar for visualization a strong plus
Benefits
Competitive total compensation (base + bonus + potential equity participation) plus comprehensive benefits.
