Program Assistant/Legislative Liaison Intern
The State of South Carolina Department of Insurance is dedicated to protecting insurance consumers and regulating the insurance industry. They are seeking a Legislative Liaison Intern to assist with administrative and research support for legislative activities while gaining practical experience in the legislative process.

Responsibilities
Assists with bill tracking by reviewing House and Senate Journals and Calendars
Assists with budget tracking by reviewing Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committee documents and noting relevant items
Monitors committee hearings as needed and assists with taking notes when simultaneous hearings occur
Assists with constituent request tracking by inputting information received from Legislative Liaison into tracking systems
Adds tags and categories to constituent requests and assists with follow-up as directed
Assists in preparing bill summaries, particularly for bills less likely to advance, as a learning exercise
Digitizes paper files and organizes electronic and physical legislative records
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma and relevant program experience
A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience
Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the area of employment
Ability to exercise judgement and discretion
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively
