Physical Security Technician I/II/III

Responsibilities
Responsible for the programming or configuration of the access control and video management applications, including door configurations, clearance assignments, system events, field hardware configurations, server management, and other system components as needed
Liaison and coordinate with UM units, external vendors, software manufacturers, Architects, and Engineers regarding security systems design, use, and administration
Partner with campus and hospital maintenance and construction units to maintain and oversee the repair of field hardware components of the security systems
Participate in the design and review of security systems for new or renovated construction projects
Attend training to maintain proficiency and professional certifications. Training may require travel out of state
Possess an in-depth understanding of access control and video management applications
Responsible for managing the University's access control system and related electronic security programs such as surveillance systems and security alarm systems
Responsible for assessing possible enhancements and involved in more advanced management duties
Develop, plan, implement, and administer the installation, operation, and maintenance of software and hardware of these systems, and integration with other systems
Responsible for advanced administration of infrastructure
Ensure that systems are implemented in compliance with specifications
Involved with advanced topics such as upgrade planning
Functions as the technical lead for projects and will provide technical direction to other physical security staff, as well as performing many of the same duties, including:
Recognizing, identifying, isolating, and resolving problems within systems such as Access Control, Cameras, and other security systems
Coordinating referrals to appropriate technical, professional, or service personnel for follow-up
Provide technical expertise for physical security projects and function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Physical Security
Manages technical aspects of projects related to physical security
Programming or configuring the access control and video management applications, including door configurations, clearance assignments, system events, field hardware configurations, server management, and other system components
Collaborate with U-M units, external vendors, software manufacturers, architects, and engineers on security systems design, use, and administration
Partner with the campus hospital maintenance and construction units to maintain and oversee the repair of field hardware components of the security systems
Participate in the design and review of security systems for new or renovated construction projects
Work with U-M Health Information Technology and Services (HITS) and U-M Information Technology Services (ITS) to coordinate administration and maintenance of the security systems servers, security hardware inventory, software, and peripherals
Test and Commission systems at completion of construction
Provide occasional on-call support through a remote connection
May occasionally work nights, evenings, or weekends to perform critical functions, systems maintenance, or support special events
Ensure security systems standards are met
Attend training to maintain proficiency and professional certifications. Training may require travel out of state
Travel to various buildings on campus to conduct equipment assessments and deliver equipment
Routinely transport, install, and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across campus
Qualification
Required
Associate degree in computer science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is necessary
Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is necessary
Must possess a valid driver's license and have less than 6 points on your driving record
Meet the physical demands of the position (position self to install computer equipment, including under desks)
Successfully pass an in-depth background investigation, drug screening, and motor vehicle driving record check
