Responsibilities
Obtain and document patient medical histories and vital signs
Schedule appointments and maintain daily sick-call lists
Assist physicians and mid-level providers during examinations and minor procedures
Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens, including urinalysis
Operate EKG machines and other clinical or laboratory equipment
Provide basic first aid, preventive care, and patient education
Triage sick-call complaints and refer to nursing or provider staff as appropriate
Assist in urgent care settings when needed
Maintain exam room supplies and ensure infection control standards are followed
Conduct screening eye exams
Observe and report significant mental health or mood changes
Accurately document all patient encounters in medical records
Maintain professional conduct and situational awareness in a correctional setting
Perform other related duties as assigned by Health Services leadership
Qualification
Required
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
Active Medical Assistant license in the State of Florida
Minimum of two (2) years documented experience as a Medical Assistant
CPR/AED certification (American Heart Association – Basic Life Support)
Ability to perform duties independently without technical supervision
Ability to work effectively with a diverse adult population
Must successfully complete a federal background investigation
Must pass drug screening
Must attend required institution orientation and security training
Must comply with all institutional security, privacy, and conduct regulations
Must maintain professional boundaries and follow inmate interaction protocols
On-site clinical setting within a federal correctional institution
Professional attire required; approved uniforms include scrubs or cargo pants with polo shirt
