The Veterans Health Administration is seeking an experienced Dentist (Oral Surgery) for the North Florida/South Georgia Gainesville VA Healthcare System. The role involves providing quality patient care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, performing complex oral and maxillofacial surgeries, and supervising dental residents and students.

Responsibilities

Be experienced and competent in all phases of OMS including but not limited to dentoalveolar surgery and complex dental extractions, treatment of orofacial infections, treatment of orofacial trauma, preprosthetic surgery, placement of osseointegrated implants, diagnostic procedures consistent with the practice of OMS, surgical treatment of oral and maxillofacial pathosis, and grafting procedures including harvesting of graft material consistent with the practice of OMS
Must be proficient in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and post-treatment care in all the above areas
Must be trained and competent in providing IV moderate sedation and be certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Must be able to manage medically complex patients, including inpatients, and to perform a history and physical
Must be able to work collegially with other dentists and physicians, and should possess the skills, both interpersonal and professional, to work with residents in OMS, other dental specialties and General Practice Dental Residents
Assignment includes advanced understanding and use of the computerized record system
Develop and supervise a rotation program of University affiliate students, residents and VA Dental Residents with the objective to improve the efficiency of operations and allowing each Resident to have a fair opportunity for professional advancement
Preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases, injuries and malformation of the teeth, jaws and the oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures
Performing comprehensive surgical care, including extractions (pulling teeth) and oral cancer screening
Performing oral and facial reconstruction surgery to repair damage from traumatic injury or serious illness

Required

Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job
Degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)

Preferred

Board Eligible or certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Minimum of four (4) years of American Dental Association accredited program in Oral Surgery
Must have completed an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited DDS/DMD
