Plant Engineer

The Plant Engineer is responsible for engineering duties on mechanical equipment, including rotating equipment and piping systems, supporting the operation and maintenance of steam turbines, as well as leading projects for system improvements and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities
Provide technical support to Plant Operations and Maintenance on system improvements, troubleshooting, repair plans, process optimization and project implementation
Perform project engineering duties to overhaul and replace equipment including the development of budget, schedules, specifications, and documents
Identifying, developing, and initiating capital and maintenance projects with an implementation date of one to three years in duration
Providing engineering support on facility safety initiatives when designing and/or redesigning work processes to eliminate workplace injuries
Lead large capital projects and engineering studies assigned to support plant goals. Managing projects in compliance with Evergy' ethics, safety, and engineering standards
Participate in the capital and O&M budgeting process. Provide budgetary cost, schedule, and justification for future years’ capital improvement projects
Keeping current in discipline, assessing new technologies and ideas, develop, evaluate, and seek approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process
Lead assigned efforts for improvements in support of safety and plant market mission
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and prepare concisely written reports
Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments, with minimal supervision
Periodically inspect equipment during outages (forced and scheduled) and develop repair plans based on applicable Codes and failure mechanisms
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil/Structural or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university (ABET)
Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and design theory required
Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices
Engineer I - 0-2 years of engineering experience
Engineer II - 2 or more years of engineering experience
Staff Engineer - 4 or more years of engineering experience
Sr Engineer - Typically possesses 8 or more years of engineering experience and an active member of a recognized industry committee or published in recognized technical journals or at minimum has two related career experiences or clearly demonstrated team leadership abilities on critical projects
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and prepare concisely written reports
Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments, with minimal supervision
Ability to analyze and interpret complex engineering systems
Preferred
ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code knowledge and experience
Certified welding inspector (CWI)
KS Professional Engineering license preferred for Senior and Lead Engineers
PE required for Principal Engineer
