 Facility Maintenance Superintendent

Responsibilities

Assist in managing the department when the Facility Maintenance Manager is unavailable
Supervise and direct the activities of Maintenance Supervisors or Forepersons to ensure high-quality repair and maintenance work
Oversee maintenance operations, managing and coordinating repair work of the distribution center facilities
Supervise maintenance technicians and workers, ensuring they are properly trained and equipped
Direct, develop, maintain, and oversee weekly scheduling of all Building and Facility personnel, including administration of OT hours
Respond to emergency calls in the event of critical equipment failure (e.g., conveyors, refrigeration, emergency generators)
Participate as a member of the Hazardous Materials Response Team
Assist in the oversight of the anhydrous ammonia systems, ensuring proper facility temperature and compliance with all PSM elements
Maintain, develop, train, and keep current records for accountability and regulatory compliance (EAM, Fire Systems, Safety Training)
Perform routine inspections and troubleshoot equipment issues to maintain operational efficiency
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, OSHA, food safety, and environmental standards
EAM tool audit work orders; audit parts usage and inventory using select computer software programs
Set up and monitor maintenance and regulatory compliance tasks using select computer software programs
Negotiate parts purchases and terms
Manage budgets for maintenance projects and assist in preparation of annual operating and capital expense budgets
Participate in the annual asset inventory count and audit
Develop and suggest ideas to improve operating efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs
Interface with supervision in other departments to stay informed of equipment needs and maintenance requirements
Coordinate with contractors and warehouse leadership for maintenance project execution
Train and develop maintenance personnel to enhance skills and knowledge
Work with security personnel, outside sales representatives, and inspectors as assigned
Actively support the company’s food safety and sanitation standards by ensuring team compliance and collaborating with the Food Safety and Sanitation Manager
Perform other duties and special projects assigned by the manager to support departmental and organizational goals

Required

Hazwopper certification required for Process Safety Management activity and hazardous materials response
Working knowledge of the computerized maintenance program to document and schedule all maintenance tasks and inventories
Working knowledge of powered industrial truck maintenance and repair
Possess positive leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others. Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results
Have basic knowledge with reading and reviewing architectural plans
Have basic knowledge of industrial sanitation programs, materials and cleaning methods
Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone
Basic computer skills required and personal computer experience, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred
Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions
Requires the ability to work unsupervised
Must be willing to respond to off-hour emergency calls for critical system failures, or accidental release of hazardous materials

Preferred

Basic computer skills required and personal computer experience, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred
