Information Technology Helpdesk Technician

City of Newton, KS is seeking an Information Technology Helpdesk Technician responsible for implementation, technical support, and maintenance of the City's information system. The role involves providing first-level technical support, resolving hardware, software, and basic network issues for users.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Respond to and resolve helpdesk tickets via phone, email, or in-person communications
Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and basic network issues
Refers problems to the proper support vendor, coordinates testing with their technicians and follows up on problem resolution
Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and applications
Assist with user account management (Active Directory, email, etc.)
Document issues and resolutions in the ticketing system
Escalate complex problems to higher-level IT staff when necessary
Maintain inventory of IT equipment and software licenses
Ensure compliance with IT security policies and procedures
Attend meetings
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required
Must maintain current KS driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
Pass KCJIS background check with fingerprinting required
Knowledge of industry-accepted computer standards, procedures, and related equipment is required
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing is essential
Independent problem solving is involved in this position
Independent decision making is involved in this position
This employee makes decisions about prioritizing daily assignments, help desk priorities and performing daily duties in the most efficient manner
This employee is responsible for City equipment
Employee does have limited authority to purchase necessary supplies within established guidelines
Frequent contact with other City employees and vendors is expected
