Interim Controller - Nonprofit

LHH Recruitment Solutions is assisting their client in finding an Interim Controller for a potential three-month role with longer-term possibilities. The position involves providing accounting support, managing financial reporting, and assisting with budgeting and cash management in the nonprofit sector.

Human Resources

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on support for month-end and quarter-end close in partnership with the CFO and accounting leadership, including Q1 2026 close activities
Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Support expense recognition, accruals, account classification, and revenue review across multiple income streams
Assist in defining close responsibilities and approval workflows during leadership transitions
Support operating, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasting and help refine forecasting models to identify trends and risks
Review financial reports for clarity, assumptions, and gaps, and perform detailed Excel-based analysis
Assist with preparation, review, and improvement of internal financial reports and monthly variance analyses
Support financial reporting for senior leadership, board committees, and ad hoc requests
Assist with daily cash monitoring, working capital management, banking relationships, financing tools, and covenant compliance

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
10+ years of accounting experience
Previous and recent experience in accounting in the nonprofit industry
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
Hands on experience with accounting operations, financial reporting, and treasury functions
Strong experience with experience with monthly close, forecasting, and cash flow management

Preferred

CPA preferred
Financial Edge software experience preferred
