RN Staff - PACU/SDP
The VA White River Junction Healthcare System is seeking a Registered Nurse for the PACU/SDP department. The role involves delivering holistic patient care in a peri-operative setting, collaborating with various healthcare providers and educating patients and families on pre-operative and post-operative care.

Responsibilities
The Peri-Operative RN demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others
Works in partnership with patients and team members for effective disease and care management
Uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with Specialty Providers, sister facilities, VISN Staff, PACT teams, Community Care, and expanded team (family/caregiver, internal and community-based services involved in providing care to the patient) to provide patient-driven care
Responsible for collaborating with services internal and external to the VA to facilitate care transition in order to effectively meet patients' needs
Educate patients and family on pre-operative preparation and post -operative care to include but not limited to, Surgical site infections (SSI), Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI)
Demonstrates leadership by serving as an advocate for patients, and a team leader with colleagues as she/he continues to enhance his/her own and the team's professional growth, development, and practice
Identifies factors impacting the patient's upcoming procedure
Obtain a Comprehensive patient health history
Obtain a complete history including system review
Obtains all preoperative testing results
Identifies issues that may impact patient's surgical plan and communicates accordingly
Maintains up-to-date documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, in order to assure quality care
Assumes overall responsibility for professional development by incorporating evidenced-based practice, research, and performance improvement initiatives as a part of ongoing nursing practice
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Subject to background/security investigation
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
You may be required to serve a probationary period

English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
Preferred
3-5 years of Perioperative experience with adults 20-90+ years old, BSN preferred
BSN preferred
