Senior Radiation Effects Engineer (Associate Research Innovator)

Responsibilities

Conducts radiation testing and characterization of electronic components and materials
Assists in analyzing radiation effects on semiconductor devices, circuits, and systems through modeling, simulation, and experimental studies
Collaborates with program sponsors to ensure program alignment
Contributes to the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation of research findings
Plans and executes radiation component testing for TID, SEE, DD, and Prompt Dose environments
Assists in maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring the accuracy of testing procedures
May supervise, train, and oversee the work products of Junior Radiation Effects Engineers
Conduct modeling and simulation studies of microelectronic radiation effects and reliability failure modes
Participate in grant and contract efforts supporting IU CREATE
Participate in acquisition and execution of SBIR and STTR programs
Leads/serves as the technical subject matter expert for a limited number of federally funded and industry-funded research and development programs within IU CREATE
Develops or assists in the development of moderately complex project proposals, plans, and protocols
Maintains and oversees research projects
Conducts non-routine experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts
Coordinates or assists logistics of research to include equipment, materials, and labor needs
Collects data/samples related to others' research sometimes in complex cases
Records, compiles, processes and analyzes data/samples
Documents results and observations in writing as well as presenting results to others
Assists in the preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include assisting in literature reviews and assisting in the writing of results and discussions

Required

Bachelor's degree in Research, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
4 years in of relevant experience
Proficient communication skills

Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty

Preferred

Ph.D. degree in Research, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
Supervisory, training, or project management experience
Previous internship or academic research in radiation effects or related fields
Experience in using simulation tools like SPICE or similar
Familiarity with space and defense industry standards for radiation testing
Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics (such as total ionizing dose (TID), single event effects (SEE), etc.)
Experience conducting accelerated radiation effects testing
Familiarity with semiconductor devices, circuits, and materials
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Hands-on experience with lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, signal generators)
Proficiency with programming languages such as C, C++ and Python
