Responsibilities

Develop and execute a comprehensive, organization-wide communications and public relations strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan
Serve as the organization’s chief spokesperson and media liaison, ensuring timely, accurate, and mission-aligned messaging
Partner with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to proactively manage and protect the organization’s reputation, including crisis communication and risk mitigation strategies
Oversee consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels and platforms, ensuring cultural competence, clarity, and impact
Advise the CEO, Board, and senior leadership on communication strategies related to organizational initiatives, change management, and stakeholder relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, community leaders, advocacy groups, and government representatives to enhance visibility and credibility
Oversee media engagement, press releases, interviews, and public statements to ensure alignment with the organization’s values and strategic priorities
Anticipate and manage issues that could impact the organization’s reputation, coordinating crisis response efforts as needed
Develop and execute strategies to highlight the organization’s clinical excellence, community impact, and innovation in behavioral healthcare
Oversee the development of marketing and brand strategies that effectively communicate the organization’s value, services, and impact to diverse audiences
Direct all content creation and management for websites, social media, podcasts, newsletters, and digital campaigns to ensure consistency and engagement
Guide digital and social media strategy to expand reach, strengthen online reputation, and increase engagement with target audiences
Marketing of the TVN National Consulting and Training Center for Mental Health
Monitor analytics and trends to measure effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts and inform data-driven improvements
Provide executive oversight of organizational events, conferences, and public forums, ensuring alignment with mission and community impact goals
Oversee planning and execution of events that promote staff engagement, donor relations, public awareness, and advocacy
Collaborate with program and development teams to ensure communication and event strategies support fundraising and partnership initiatives
Represent the organization at public events, legislative hearings, and community forums as needed
Develop internal communication strategies that foster transparency, employee engagement, and alignment with organizational goals
Ensure timely and consistent messaging to staff about key initiatives, policy changes, and achievements
Collaborate with Human Resources and Operations leadership to promote an informed, connected, and mission-driven workforce
Lead and develop a high-performing communications, marketing, and events team, promoting collaboration, creativity, and accountability
Build leadership capacity and ensure ongoing professional development within the communications function
Promote trauma-informed and inclusive communication practices internally and externally
Manage departmental budgets and resources to ensure efficiency and sustainability

Required

Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in marketing and communications, with at least 5 years in an executive or senior leadership role
Demonstrated success in leading strategic communications, crisis management, and media relations for complex, multi-site organizations
Proven ability to manage multiple communication channels and large-scale organizational events
Deep understanding of communication strategy, media relations, and brand management in mission-driven organizations
Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with the ability to adapt tone and content for diverse audiences
Strong grasp of digital and social media platforms, analytics, and emerging communication technologies
Demonstrated ability to manage crises and protect organizational reputation under pressure
High emotional intelligence, professionalism, and ability to convey compassion and authenticity in all communications
Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to inspire creativity and collaboration
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting complex information clearly to diverse audiences, including the Board
Ability to use a computer, expertise in the use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, statistical analysis, Word and Excel, and proficiency with other Microsoft Office products
Ability to effectively delegate and provide leadership; strong analytical skills with special attention to problem solving
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
Ability to drive to locations within and outside of Ohio and be eligible for auto insurance coverage under organization's plan

Preferred

Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) or similar professional credential desirable
Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or human services sectors strongly preferred
