The Gender and Artificial Intelligence Expert will provide multi-channel support for capacity building, advisory services, and custom AI tool development to ensure that AI practices are gender-responsive and aligned with human rights.

Responsibilities

Capacity building and training (UN Women, UN system, COs, and partners)
Gender-responsive AI capacity-building tool development, including bootcamp customization, and delivery
Tailored gender-responsive AI training
Gender-responsive AI workshop customization and delivery for movement building linked to UN Women areas of thematic focus, as defined in Strategic Note
Develop and coordinate implementation of tailored curriculum for gender-responsive AI upskilling to leave no one behind, according to programming requirements
Advisory and technical assistance (workflows, knowledge management, AI adoption, AI in programmes)
One-on-one or team advisory calls/clinics with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific thematic teams, Country Offices or Programme Presences
Custom AI tooling (GPTs) for programmes and operations
Provide flexible, on-demand needs assessment and design of customized GPTs accordingly to standardize, scale and safeguard workstreams across UN Women’s thematic and operational workstreams
Provide technical input to RO and COs for their engagement in regional and country-level platforms, including, and as appropriate, UN 2.0 Week global showcases (Agile AI School; Custom GPTs in Action), ITU AI for Good, UNSD “No-code Custom AI Tools” webinars, UN Innovation Group knowledge exchange
Knowledge sharing & showcases (UN 2.0, UNSD, Innovation Group)
Provide technical input to RO and COs for their engagement in regional and country-level platforms, including, and as appropriate, UN 2.0 Week global showcases (Agile AI School; Custom GPTs in Action), ITU AI for Good, UNSD “No-code Custom AI Tools” webinars, UN Innovation Group knowledge exchange
Support RO and COs to contribute to policy and strategy development on gender-responsive AI in diverse contexts with multiple stakeholders ranging from governments, private sector, within the UN system, within the identified thematic focus areas in RO SN and/or CO SN
Research and develop knowledge products to inform and influence use of and access to gender-responsive AI and AI targeted upskilling to leave no one behind, in partnership with diverse stakeholders

Required

Master's degree in computer science or data science (with gender and development experience), or other relevant disciplines. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible, practical experience in computer science or data science
Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment in development contexts
Experience in organizing and delivering capacity development initiatives, such as workshops, trainings, or technical one-on-one sessions on gender and AI
Experience conducting research and writing briefs and strategies on AI and gender
Proven experience developing tailored GPTs to standardize, scale and safeguard workstreams
Demonstrated experience providing gender-responsive AI governance, policy analysis and policy advisory support to UN entities, governments, regional institutions or intergovernmental bodies, particularly in the Asia and Pacific region
Experience in policy and programmatic work using AI as a tool to improve efficiency and effectiveness is strong asset
Experience working with UN agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors, private sector actors, and philanthropic institutions is an asset
Experience working within the UN system or other international organizations engaged in gender-responsive AI is an asset
Knowledge of UN Women's thematic areas is an asset
Fluency in English is required

Preferred

Knowledge of other languages spoken in the Asia-Pacific region, or any UN official language is an asset
