Workers' Compensation Consultant

Responsibilities
Investigates, evaluates, and resolves assigned workers' compensation claims in accordance with legal provisions, university policy, and internal guidelines
Makes initial determination as to whether case will be approved or denied; determines coverage and compensability or potential compensation recovery; ensures timely denial or payment of benefits in accordance with university policy and federal, state and local law
Establishes and implements appropriate action plans for case resolution, including medical and disability management, litigation management, negotiation and disposition; makes determination about reasonable treatment and confirms that treatment is specifically related to the workers' compensation injury and not part of an existing medical condition; works collaboratively with clinical professionals to develop and execute return to work strategies
Partners with HR liaisons to investigate workers' compensation claims and to collect appropriate documentation
Researches and stays up-to-date on federal, state, and local laws pertaining to workers' compensation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (preferably in related discipline)
Proficient communication skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Seeks to acquire knowledge in workers' compensation specialty
Preferred
Some related work experience
Workers' comp claims adjudication
Understanding of medical terminology preferred
