Sheet Metal Mechanic

Responsibilities
Drills and punches holes in metal, for screws, bolts, and rivets. Fastens, seams, and joints together with welds, bolts, cements, rivets, solders, caulks, metal drive clips, and bonds in order to assemble components into products or to repair sheet metal items. Finishes parts using hacksaws, and hand, rotary, or squaring shears
Inspects individual parts, assemblies, and installations for conformance to specifications and building codes, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers
Selects gauges and types of sheet metal or non-metallic material, according to product specifications. Shapes metal material over anvils, blocks, or other forms, using hand tools
Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts, using hand tools and portable power tools. Installs door hinges, panic bars, thresholds, motorized projector screens and mounts, and toilet partitions. Maintains kitchen equipment, roof gutters, and overhead doors. Installs and repairs roofing and flashing materials
Installs assemblies, including heating and air conditioning ducts and air handlers; balances air flow. Repairs and cleans air handlers as needed. Repairs air handler coils. Welds metal repairs on mobile or stationary equipment
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. Provides 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary. Works during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
5 years verifiable journey level experience in the sheet metal field; OR Certificate in DOL apprenticed sheet metal trade
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon hire
Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism

Ability to effectively communicate
Ability to handle equipment
Ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs
Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception
