Responsibilities
Track and reconcile firm revenue, expenses, and operating costs
Maintain financial data by attorney, client, matter, and practice area
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for firm leadership
Create graphs, charts, and dashboards illustrating firm performance, trends, and key metrics
Analyze profitability by attorney, case type, and client
Identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improved efficiency or profitability
Oversee client billing, invoicing, collections, and payment application
Ensure billing accuracy and compliance with engagement agreements
Coordinate with attorneys to resolve billing or time-entry discrepancies
Track accounts receivable and generate aging reports
Prepare visual billing and collections reports for leadership review
Track attorney billable and non-billable hours
Ensure accurate and timely time entry across all attorneys
Generate reports and visual summaries showing:
Billable hours
Utilization rates
Realization and collection rates
Productivity trends over time
Compile and calculate attorney compensation based on firm compensation structure
Prepare detailed compensation reports and graphical summaries for partners and firm leadership
Ensure timely and accurate attorney payments
Maintain strict confidentiality of compensation data
Maintain and optimize financial, billing, and time-tracking systems
Build and maintain reporting templates, spreadsheets, and dashboards
Improve internal reporting processes for accuracy, clarity, and efficiency
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow analysis using both numeric and visual reporting
Coordinate with external accountants and payroll providers as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
3+ years of experience in finance, accounting, billing, or analytics
(law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred)
Strong experience preparing financial reports, charts, graphs, and dashboards
Advanced Excel or spreadsheet skills (pivot tables, formulas, charts)
Experience with SalesForce or SalesForce based applications preferred
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Ability to present financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders
Proven discretion with confidential financial and compensation information
Preferred
Experience working in a multi-attorney law firm or other professional services firm
Knowledge of legal billing structures and attorney compensation models
Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools (e.g., Excel dashboards, Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
