Produce Manager

Responsibilities

Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly customer service
Assist customers by making product suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling using telephone interactions, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one customer interaction
Answer incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when necessary
Plan daily operations and monitor production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals
Trim, cut, wrap, tray, display, and water produce products
Build produce displays; rotate inventory and discard outdated or spoiled product
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation in the work area and department
Implement seasonal and promotional displays
Maintain and monitor Salad Bar or Fresh‑Made operations where applicable
Ensure all product freshness, quality, and departmental standards are followed
Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance
Schedule employees to ensure appropriate coverage and service levels
Maintain knowledge of all tasks performed within the department, including opening and closing duties
Supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees in store policies, sales techniques, and record‑keeping procedures
Identify and develop high‑potential employees for advancement
Initiate personnel actions, including interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps
Prepare sales and inventory reports; participate in physical inventory every four weeks
Control inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, and freshness; stock and rotate produce according to division standards
Maintain and organize the produce cooler, ensuring proper rotation and storage
Manage shrink and cost control within the department
Ensure proper code‑dating procedures for all produce items
Maintain accurate daily log sheets, Fresh‑Made production charts, and labor/sales documentation
Ensure temperatures are properly maintained during all phases of preparation, display, and storage
Maintain accurate signage, pricing, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL)
Comply with all retail labeling laws, federal/state regulations, company policies, and code‑dating standards
Comply with workplace safety rules; ensure all areas, equipment, coolers, and display spaces meet sanitation and safety standards
Follow emergency procedures during equipment or software malfunctions
Perform receiving duties: break down loads, verify orders using invoices, inspect quality, report shortages, stock and rotate product
Follow all temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines
Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate records
Operate produce‑related equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines
Use computer software and electronic ordering devices to place product orders
Attend and participate in sales meetings
Communicate department performance, goals, and sales opportunities to employees
Ensure compliance with company grooming and dress code standards
Perform all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity
Carry out any other necessary or assigned responsibilities
