Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server database applications supporting complex system requirements
Write, analyze, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and scripts
Perform query optimization and performance tuning (indexes, execution plans, deadlocks, blocking, etc.)
Implement and support database deployment procedures and release management for database changes
Ensure database performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and issue resolution
Collaborate with application/dev teams to improve database design and application query performance
Provide production support and technical troubleshooting for database-driven applications
Create and maintain technical documentation (data models, change logs, runbooks, support procedures)
Qualification
Required
Extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL (senior-level hands-on development)
Proven experience with database design and development, query optimization, and performance tuning
Strong working knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Solid understanding of database security (roles/permissions, least privilege, auditing concepts, secure design)
Demonstrated track record supporting SQL Server database applications in production
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
U.S. citizenship and ability to work onsite 5 days/week in downtown Washington, DC
Preferred
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) experience
Experience with C#/.NET and Visual Studio (helpful for integrated application/database work)
Familiarity with Agile delivery practices (user stories, sprints, iterative releases, DevOps coordination)
