Responsibilities

Provides animal husbandry and care for university animals used in research and/or education outcomes; performs various other laboratory animal support functions (such as cleaning and maintenance of laboratory and/or animal housing units and various equipment)
Receives, stores, and rotates feed, bedding, and other animal husbandry supplies and equipment; maintains proper sanitation, environment, and health status of housing units. Maintain/verify proper record keeping (census, animal health, document sanitation and equipment maintenance)
Provides technical support for LARC and research investigators (treatments, sample collection for sentinels, weaning litters, and administering diets, etc.); monitors animal health and observes for overt signs of disease and report any changes/concerns in animal health; handles, restrain, and transfer animals as directed
Assists higher level Animal Care Technicians and facility users and performs other related duties as assigned

Required

High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Date of Hire
Demonstrates a high commitment to quality
Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills
Ability to move about for long periods of time
Ability to perform repetitive movements
Ability to operate equipment, tools, or controls
Ability to move items weighing up to 40 pounds
Ability to perform the essential duties with or without an accommodation
