Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Director, support the planning, coordination, implementation of the Fall and Spring New Student Orientation Programs (NSOP), including program/session development, budget oversight, and assessment and evaluation
Manage and make determinations on programmatic budgets for campus-wide initiatives, including NSOP, within established departmental and College guidelines, and recommend funding priorities that impact institutional resources
Develop and implement operational structures, staffing models, and procedures for NSOP and campus-wide programming, with decision-making authority that affects College-wide program delivery
Represent SEE on campus-wide committees and planning efforts by providing recommendations that inform institutional practices related to student transition, engagement, and retention
Coordinate with various departments and campus partners whose involvement is essential to the success of NSOP, including, but not limited to, administrators from Columbia’s four undergraduate schools
Support in the structuring and operations of student transition, retention, and engagement by developing and implementing targeted campus-wide programming throughout the semester for the College
Recruit, hire, supervise and assist in the training of all student NSOP staff including, Orientation Leaders, Team Captains and Orientation Coordinators
Work effectively with campus partners on all SEE initiatives, including, but not limited to, NSOP, class-specific programming, SEE programming, and Commencement, to support planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs
Serve as primary advisor for the McIntosh Activities Council (McAC), Barnard’s student-lead activities council that oversees large-scale campus traditions, with responsibility for supporting and ensuring the successful planning, execution, and evaluation of these signature campus events
Maintain an advising portfolio of student organizations, providing guidance to help student leaders plan, implement, and assess programs, develop leadership skills, and foster community engagement across campus
In collaboration with colleagues in Non-Residential Student Support, implement programs to support non-residential students, commuter students, and first year students in college transition
As designated, serve as a Strengths Coach, and assist the Department and Barnard College with facilitating sessions for student leaders, students, and other members of the Barnard community
Contribute to the Department’s marketing and communication efforts via content management platforms and other means to ensure the campus community is informed and aware of Campus-Wide initiatives
Assist in staffing campus-wide programs and initiatives both via the Department and the College; may include some evening and weekend responsibilities
As designated, Supervise a graduate assistant, who provides support for SEE initiatives and large-scale programs, including NSOP, campus-wide events, and other initiatives outlined above. Other duties as assigned

Required

Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development or a related field
1-3 years of experience working in an higher education setting, ideally supporting orientation programs, student transition initiatives, event management, or related functional areas. Experience advising and supervising undergraduate & graduate students, including managing multiple student organizations and large-scale campus events
Proven ability to develop, implement, and assess programs that support student engagement, transition, and retention
Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume, high-energy environment
Familiarity with Clifton Strengths Finder and Strengths coaching and experience serving as a resource for student leadership development
Experience working with software programs such as Engage or other Anthology programs for organization management, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe platforms
Ability to work in a high volume, high traffic, and high energy environment
Comfort working as a member of a team and willingness to be a member of the Barnard Community
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, alumnae, parents and members of the public
Demonstrated ability to advise and support student organizations, including large-scale campus traditions, and to foster leadership development, engagement, and community-building
Proven ability to contribute to student transition, orientation, and retention programming through planning, implementation, and assessment of initiatives
Demonstrated ability to work with and among diverse communities and campus partners to advance SEE initiatives and other departmental priorities
Word processing and computer skills including but not limited to Canva, Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Suite
Familiarity and experience with navigating online student engagement platforms, such as Anthology
