Responsibilities
Provide Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) engineering support to the ES31 E3, RF & GN&C Branch of the Space Systems Department in the Engineering Directorate at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL
Provide expertise in the development of new GN&C hardware including rate sensors, accelerometers, inertial measurement units, inertial navigation units, and GPS-aided inertial navigation units
Generate and review cost estimates, quantity delivery requirements, and schedules for GN&C hardware development and testing
Develop, review, and provide input to the development of GN&C component requirements, test plans, and test procedures
Participate in component design reviews, technical interchange meetings, test readiness reviews, acceptance data reviews, qualification data reviews, and other component-related meetings
Review and assess GN&C component development, acceptance, and qualification test results for requirements compliance and performance capability
Assess and provide recommendations on nonconformance reports and waivers
Develop, review, and provide input to the development of operations and maintenance documents, launch commit criteria, launch countdown timeline, and other program documents that involve GN&C hardware
Develop and contribute to the development of solutions to GN&C systems-related and GN&C hardware-related problems
Participate in and make presentations in meetings to address issues in development, testing, and integration of GN&C hardware
Generate or review development and design approaches for adequacy, feasibility, cost, and conformance to overall SLS goals and best engineering practices
Qualification
Required
A BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field is required
Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 4 years of experience; Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to perform technical tasks independently is required
Selected candidate must be a US citizen
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required
Preferred
Degree from an ABET accredited institution
Proficiency in avionics definition, design, development, testing, evaluation, implementation, and integration experience
Discipline expert in avionics sensors, controls, electronics, digital signal processing, GN&C attitude determination and pointing applications
Experience with hardware including rate gyro assemblies, inertial measurement units, inertial navigation units, Global Positioning systems (GPS) aided inertial navigation units, and reaction wheel assemblies
