Data Integration Lead
Allied Resources Technical Consultants is seeking a Data Integration Lead to design, operate, and govern the secure flow of operational technology (OT) and plant data into a Unified Data Layer (UDL). This role serves as a critical bridge between OT, IT, and plant IoT systems, ensuring reliable, near-real-time data availability for analytics, machine learning, reporting, and automation initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead OT-to-IT data integration strategy across DCS, PLC, SCADA, and historian systems
Design secure, resilient architectures for plant data egress into enterprise platforms
Own time-series and event modeling for manufacturing, batch, and asset-based data
Establish standardized onboarding patterns for new plants, units, and data sources
Ensure OT data reliability, observability, security, and compliance with ISA standards
Serve as a key technical liaison between plant operations, IT, cybersecurity, and vendors
Define and operate secure, defensible architectures for OT data egress from control networks
Design store-and-forward and buffering strategies to protect control systems and ensure data continuity during outages
Establish standardized onboarding patterns for new plants and units, including: Network zoning and segmentation, Firewall rules, Certificates and credential management, Endpoint hardening and access controls
Ensure architectures align with OT cybersecurity best practices and enterprise IT standards
Build and oversee data extraction from: Historians (Honeywell PHD, AVEVA PI), DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems, LIMS and laboratory instrumentation
Implement event frames and contextual models including: Batches, phases, and grade changes, Alarm and event streams, Equipment hierarchies and asset frameworks, Condition signals with units, calibration metadata, and production context aligned to ISA-88 and ISA-95 standards
Publish governed, contracted schemas into the Unified Data Layer for downstream consumption by BI, APIs, and ML platforms
Implement observability and monitoring for OT data flows, including: Data freshness and gap detection, Tag quality and availability, Schema drift and pipeline health
Develop dashboards, alerts, on-call runbooks, and incident response procedures
Enforce ISA/IEC 62443 and ISA-99 security controls in collaboration with Cybersecurity and IT teams
Lead and document Management of Change (MOC), outage coordination, and pre-/post-deployment validation with plant stakeholders
Partner with plant controls, process engineering, reliability/maintenance, and HSE teams to prioritize tags, events, KPIs, and analytics use cases
Coordinate with UDL engineering teams to deliver curated, lineage-aware, high-quality OT datasets
Work with reporting and BI teams to certify datasets for enterprise consumption
Guide vendors and system integrators with clear definitions of done (DoD), acceptance criteria, testing plans, and knowledge transfer milestones
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 7+ years of experience in OT, controls engineering, or OT data integration
Demonstrated experience working across DCS, PLC, SCADA, and historian platforms in manufacturing environments
Proven ability to lead complex OT data initiatives across multiple stakeholders and sites
Hands-on experience with historians such as Honeywell PHD and/or AVEVA PI (interfaces, connectors, asset frameworks, event frames)
Strong knowledge of OPC UA, MQTT (Sparkplug B preferred), and OT gateways such as Kepware or Ignition
Experience designing DMZ and broker-based architectures, including firewall rules, certificates, and no-control-network-read designs
Strong time-series data conditioning and event modeling expertise
Proficiency with SQL and Python for data validation, tooling, and utilities
Familiarity with Windows Server services in OT/industrial environments
Working knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443 security frameworks, least-privilege access, and secrets/certificate management
Exposure to SAP S/4HANA data touchpoints and LIMS integrations for quality and lab data
Preferred
Experience with Azure-based OT ingestion patterns (IoT Edge, Event Hubs, Kafka, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric)
Enterprise-scale PI AF/EF or equivalent asset and event modeling experience
Knowledge of alarm rationalization (ISA-18.2), sensor validation, and calibration workflows
Exposure to HSE, EMIS, or environmental reporting systems
Relevant certifications such as ISA-62443, CCNA-Industrial, or historian vendor certifications
