Responsibilities

Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management
Assess, maintain, and upgrade facility power distribution systems
Lead the development and review of electrical engineering and designs for new and replacement equipment
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer(s) to establish design requirements, scope, schedule, and cost
Qualify as Electrical Safety Officer and support work planning, hazard control, and abnormal event responses and investigation
Evaluate complex electrical challenges, identify risks, and develop creative solutions
Provide insights on electrical safety, power quality, system protection, and reliability improvements
Lead technical discussions, mentor junior engineers, and drive process improvements
Manage long-term operational and strategic planning for facility reinvestment and asset management

Required

Combined experience related to the engineering, calculations, and design of facility electrical system, structures and components such as switchgear, switchboards, MCCs, motor starters / VFDs, Small UPS, panelboards, feeders, branch circuits, and short circuit analysis
Knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering principles, design guides and relevant standards
Experience in system and equipment installation and maintenance in accordance with National Codes and Standards such as IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA
Knowledge of engineering work planning, design change control and coordination
Knowledge of basic project engineering practices
Excellent verbal and written communication
Position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum three (3) years of practical experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above

Preferred

Fundamentals of Engineer (FE) is desirable at the Engineer 2 level
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable at the Engineer 3 level
Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to electrical design implementation
Experience with SKM Powertools Software or similar electrical system analysis software
