Maintenance Engineer at the High Flux Isotope Reactor

Responsibilities

Develop written directions to perform and document repetitive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and modification activities on nuclear safety related and non-nuclear equipment in an operating reactor facility
Determine the required specifications for materials, and request/coordinate the procurement of required material
Provide technical direction during field work to craft workers and supervisors
Coordinate with equipment owners and facility management to accomplish work safely and with efficient use of resources
Identify risks to personnel or plant and work with RRD/NSD/NTD and other personnel to plan appropriate risk mitigation, including those concerning health physics, industrial hygiene, and safety
Understand and implement human performance principles in the planning of maintenance work packages
Ensure that UT-Battelle policies concerning environmental protection, safety, ALARA, and quality assurance are considered and complied with
Administer the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for a given area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, facilities), including the processing and initial task assignment or the administration of individual work activities
Responsible for analyzing maintenance practices and procedures, equipment failures, identifying equipment operating, and reporting results as assigned
Some duties will require work to be performed in a radiological area

Required

A BS degree in engineering, applied science, or a related discipline with 5 or more years of relevant experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered (HS diploma with at least 9 years of relevant experience or AS degree in related discipline with at least 7 years of relevant experience)
Experience diagnosing equipment problems and developing formal work package instructions for documentation of repairs

Preferred

A BS degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant nuclear experience
Experience working in a nuclear reactor environment in the mechanical, electrical, or operations field
Familiarity with maintenance activities in a nuclear reactor operating environment
HFIR facility knowledge
Experience in construction management and project oversight
Familiarity with the NEC (National Electrical Code)
Experience with predictive maintenance techniques and equipment reliability programs
Familiarity with beamline operations and neutron scattering equipment
