Responsibilities

You will explain topics of insurance coverage, treatment costs, and financial assistance opportunities to the patient, relative, or patient's representative
You will provide expertise and education in the areas of Medicaid eligibility, Social Security Disability and any available government programs
You will perform complete and accurate Patient registrations according to the organization’s policy and procedures and federal/state regulatory requirements, acting as an ambassador to ensure a patient-friendly experience
You will complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic information, insurance data and/or third-party liability information
You will complete regulatory or policy required forms, including payor requirements such as Medicare, L & I requirements and some commercial payors, and obtains all necessary signatures via mail or upon registration
You will provide patient liability information to and collects the point of service cash from patients based on guidelines and/or systems provided by the department, including but not limited to: co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, deposits, outstanding balances

Application Counselor certificationHealthcare collection experienceFinancial counseling experienceMedical terminologyInsurance benefit verificationPrecertification experienceMedicaid case workBilling experienceCommunication skills

Required

Minimum three (3) years healthcare collection, financial counseling, insurance benefit verification and/or precertification, third party payor, Medicaid case work or billing experience required
Certified as an Application Counselor (CAC) within 90-days of employment

Preferred

Completion of a medical terminology course or proficiency preferred
