Chief Science and Technology Officer
Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an experienced technical professional for the role of Chief Science and Technology Officer (CSTO) for their Energy & Environment Science & Technology Directorate. The CSTO will provide scientific and strategic leadership, ensuring research objectives align with the laboratory's vision and managing impactful research and development initiatives.

Responsibilities
Represents the EES&T directorate and INL as a whole in various forums and, as such, is expected to understand the full scope of EES&T work and ensure that EES&T’s research objectives are aligned with INL’s vision, mission, and values
Ensures that EES&T delivers relevant and impactful research and development of the highest quality and serves as an advocate for EES&T accomplishments to advance the standing, recognition, and branding of the Laboratory
Proactively manages and drives internal investments in the EES&T Laboratory Directed Research & Development (LDRD) portfolio, from the development of research concepts to harvest strategies for successful research outcomes
Drives EES&T collaboration across the laboratory through engagement with the other Chief Science & Technology Offers and directorate laboratory fellows
Leads initiatives to increase the quality and quantity of EES&T’s research outputs that document the directorate’s scientific discoveries and accompanying inventions, patents, and other innovations
Assists EES&T in drawing world-class researchers to INL and provides mentorship for early and mid-career researchers, with an emphasis on career development and support
Completes other duties as assigned by the Associate Laboratory Director
Qualification
Required
Level 5: PhD in engineering, science, or related technical discipline and 6 years of related experience
Level 6: PhD in engineering, science, or related technical discipline and 10 years of related experience
Depending on work assignment, obtain and maintain a DOE level 'L' or 'Q' security clearance which requires US Citizenship
Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior staff in technical and professional development
Experience leading initiatives that promote knowledge sharing and skill enhancement within the team
Familiarity with federal funding processes
Proven track record of crafting and securing successful competitive proposals
Preferred
15+ years of relevant experience
Laboratory and industry experience, with established professional connections
Experience interfacing with the Department of Energy and other U.S. Government agencies, universities, industry, and other external entities
Familiarity with critical minerals and materials research and development needs
Experience communicating complex technical topics to wide ranging audiences (both written and verbal)
