Manager of Market Operations, CAISO
MCE is a not-for-profit public agency focused on clean energy and sustainability. The Manager of Market Operations will guide MCE's market operations and resource optimization, ensuring compliance with CAISO rules while leading forecasting and reporting efforts to support strategic decisions.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute MCE’s load, resource (including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)/Hybrid), and Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR) bidding strategies to maximize portfolio value while minimizing market risk and penalties
Lead-load forecasting and scheduling activities to ensure accurate projections and efficient market participation
Oversee bidding, dispatch, and outage coordination by monitoring performance, resolving operational issues with the Scheduling Coordinator, and ensuring strategies are implemented effectively
Act as CAISO Subject Matter Expert; monitor BPM/tariff changes and market redesign initiatives; advise on compliance and strategy
Formulate Import Allocation Rights (IAR) nominate strategy to optimize portfolio economics
Oversee settlements: validation, disputes, and month-end close with Finance department
Support new resources through CAISO’s NRI process
Manage import tagging processes to ensure compliance and accurate scheduling of external resources
Produce portfolio reporting and performance dashboards, delivering executive-ready insights to inform strategic decisions
Lead projects and vendors end-to-end to drive continuous improvement
Manage and coach a high-performing team within Market Operations
Qualification
Required
Hands-on experience with Scheduling Coordinator processes, CAISO operations and settlements, and NRI onboarding
Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills
Knowledge of California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), CAISO, California Air Resources Board (CARB), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) rules and regulations
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, or related field
7+ years of CAISO market operations experience, including work within utilities, Community Choice Aggregators (CCAs), Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs), or comparable entities
Ability to be thorough and detail oriented
Ability to manage multiple priorities and quickly adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons encountered during the performance of duties administrative bodies and MCE staff, Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors
Ability to take responsibility and work independently, as well as work as a team member
Ability to prepare professional written work products
Ability to perform quantitative data and statistical analysis and effectively communicate results to others
Exercise exceptional analytical skills, sound judgment, creative problem solving, and commercial awareness
Analyze and interpret large amounts of information quickly and accurately and make sound policy recommendations
Preferred
Master's degree is a plus
