Vice President of Visitor Experience

Visit Estes Park is seeking a Vice President of Visitor Experience to lead the strategic design and stewardship of the visitor lifecycle for Estes Park and the surrounding area. This role involves providing enterprise-level leadership to integrate destination marketing, digital engagement, and visitor services, while ensuring a high-quality experience for both residents and visitors.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive destination experience strategy that integrates marketing, brand storytelling, digital innovation, visitor readiness, and community and destination stewardship
Synthesize and activate existing tourism, resident, sustainability, and visitor intelligence to guide experience strategy, destination readiness, and organizational priorities - ensuring insights are translated into action and transforming established plans and data into measurable outcomes. (VEP currently has a draft Tourism Master Plan, a Sustainability Destination Stewardship Plan, Operating Plan, marketing strategies, resident surveys, visitor data, etc.)
Provide executive oversight of the Estes Park brand, ensuring it is authentic, compelling, and consistent across all channels and touchpoints. Align partners, business stakeholders, elected officials, residents, and visitors around shared expectations for year-round, elevated, responsible, and meaningful experiences in Estes Park and surrounding region as a premier traveler destination
Oversee VEP’s integrated marketing strategy, including digital advertising, content production, creative development, social media, and earned media
Understand innovation in and recommend utilization of AI-driven personalization in VEP’s digital visitor services, online platforms, CRM/CMS systems, and reporting and advanced analytics
Guide the strategic use of digital platforms and tools to enhance visitor readiness, personalization, and engagement
Expand VEP’s thought leadership and national and global relevance in destination marketing, sustainable and regenerative tourism, and AI-enabled visitor experience design
Align marketing, communications, and visitor experience initiatives to ensure consistent storytelling and expectations across the full visitor lifecycle
Establish visitor experience standards and principles that guide internal teams and external partners, identifying opportunities to reduce friction and deepen connection with place
Supporting the Manager of Destination Stewardship, partner with the Town of Estes Park, Larimer County, Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), lodging & attraction partners, and area business stakeholders to enhance potential partnerships in wayfinding, signage, accessibility, placemaking, and in-market efforts
Lead initiatives elevating “destination readiness,” including visitor and resident environmental education, in-town and regional transportation communication, content for safe recreation, including wildlife safety, seasonal expectations (wildfire and crisis communications), and community education
Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, business owners, nonprofit agencies, media, elected officials, government, and public agencies to ensure the visitor economy aligns with community values
Facilitate collaboration around visitor flow management, transportation communication and environmental education, based on travelers’ journey and experience and resident needs
Serve as an ambassador for sustainable tourism principles aligned with community values
Lead and inspire team members across marketing, management, destination stewardship, digital, communications, visitor services, and experience development
Provide strategic leadership by championing the development of future leaders, fostering professional growth and career development, succession readiness, and a high-performing, collaborative culture
Serve as a key advisor to VEP’s CEO, contributing to long-term organizational strategy, performance measurement, budgeting, and accountability

Required

Master's degree in marketing, communications, tourism, business or public administration, recreation management, digital strategy, UX/Experience Design, or a closely related field
Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in destination marketing and management, experience design, digital strategy, or a closely related field
Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-sector initiatives involving destination marketing and management organizations, public and private agencies, community stakeholders, and diverse partners
Collaborative leadership style, able to align diverse stakeholders and serve as a unifying voice to internal teams and external audiences
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to lead small, and diverse teams, articulate vision, and represent Visit Estes Park professionally to local, national, and global audiences
Leadership experience with agency relationships across marketing, PR, and brand functions, including contract and budget management
Strategic, visionary thinking with the ability to translate big ideas into actionable experience improvements

Preferred

Experience in sustainable or regenerative tourism and destination stewardship principles and best practices
Experience in digital ecosystems within a travel and tourism space, including social media innovation, influencer relations, emerging platforms, and omni-channel storytelling
Understanding of media buying principles to drive effective channel selection, pricing, and campaign performance
Experience in experience design, placemaking, or visitor readiness projects in partnership with public-sector, stakeholder, or community groups
Digital fluency, including comfort with rapidly evolving AI capabilities, next-gen social platforms, and advanced analytics
Operational discipline, including transparency, budgeting, prioritization, staff professional development, and performance measurement
