Patent Paralegal
Caldwell is a global law firm dedicated to protecting and growing clients' valuable assets. They are seeking a Trademark and Patent Paralegal with substantial experience in patent and trademark prosecution to manage complex portfolios and support their growing IP practice.
Responsibilities
Deadline & Docket Management: Independently track and manage all U.S. and foreign deadlines for patent and trademark matters, including applications, office action responses, renewals, and maintenance filings
Patent Prosecution Support: Prepare, review, and file patent applications, office action responses, IDSs, continuations, PCT filings, and national phase entries with the USPTO, WIPO, and foreign patent offices
Trademark Prosecution Support: Prepare, file, and manage trademark applications, office action responses, statements of use, renewals, assignments, and Madrid Protocol filings
Document Management: Maintain organized and complete patent and trademark files, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and easy retrieval
Attorney, Client & Foreign Associate Coordination: Serve as a primary point of contact for attorneys, clients, and foreign associates regarding prosecution strategy, status updates, deadlines, and required actions
Monitoring IP Office Correspondence: Review incoming correspondence from the USPTO and foreign IP offices, assess response requirements, and ensure timely attorney review and filing
Compliance & Procedural Expertise: Stay current on U.S. and international patent and trademark laws, rules, and procedures to ensure compliance and provide procedural guidance
Docketing Systems & Databases: Maintain and audit docketing and document management systems to ensure accuracy and proactively resolve discrepancies
Collaboration & Mentorship: Work closely with attorneys and staff and assist in training or mentoring junior paralegals or docketing professionals as needed
Billing & Reporting: Track billable time and prepare detailed portfolio status reports for attorneys and clients
Qualification
Required
3+ years of experience as an intellectual property paralegal with demonstrated experience in both patent and trademark prosecution
Strong knowledge of USPTO procedures, PCT practice, international patent and trademark prosecution
Knowledge of U.S. and international trademark rules and procedures including TTAB proceedings and related filings
Ability to independently manage complex, high-volume IP portfolios
Proficiency with IP docketing and document management systems
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred
Strong docketing and deadline-management skills including experience with Anaqua PATTSY-Wave strongly preferred
Experience with trademark portfolio management, renewals, and enforcement support preferred
