Search Architect and Engineer

ActioNet is a dynamic IT Services Firm specializing in Enterprise Software Development. They are seeking a Search Architect and Engineer to maintain an Autonomy/IDOL Search infrastructure and lead the migration to a secure, cloud-based search and data discovery platform in Azure.

Responsibilities

Architect, design, and implement Azure-based search platforms, including Azure AI Search and related data ingestion and enrichment pipelines
Lead the design of scalable, highly available search architectures supporting large data volumes, diverse data sources, and high-performance query workloads
Define reference architectures, technical standards, and best practices for cloud search, data indexing, and retrieval services
Integrate cloud search services with distributed data processing environments such as Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics
Design and optimize data ingestion, transformation, indexing, and enrichment workflows using Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and event-driven architectures
Establish and maintain operational parameters for deploying, scaling, and managing search services and supporting workflows
Design and optimize storage strategies using Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Blob Storage, and relational or NoSQL data sources to support efficient indexing and retrieval
Implement performance, relevance, and ranking optimizations for search workloads, including schema design, index tuning, and query optimization
Deploy and manage monitoring and dashboard solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights to track system health, search performance, availability, and cost efficiency
Provide technical leadership on security architecture, identity integration, and access controls using Azure Entra ID, RBAC, private endpoints, and network isolation
Guide automation and infrastructure-as-code implementations using Terraform, Azure Bicep, or ARM templates
Produce architectural documentation, system diagrams, and operational guidance for engineering and stakeholder teams
Support data governance, metadata management, data quality, and privacy protection requirements within search and discovery platforms
Collaborate with data science, engineering, and operations teams to design and validate end-to-end search and analytics solutions
Identify and resolve complex technical, architectural, and operational challenges
Support agile project execution, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, technical reviews, and cross-team coordination
Maintain Kanban or sprint boards and track architectural tasks, milestones, and dependencies
Develop and oversee production-ready code, tools, and workflows supporting indexing, enrichment, testing, and validation of search outputs
Define and oversee cost optimization strategies for search services, compute, and storage resources
Document and distribute design decisions, architectural standards, and technical recommendations

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
Experience architecting and supporting Azure cloud-based platforms
Hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud search or data discovery solutions (e.g., Azure AI Search, Autonomy/IDOL or equivalent technologies)
Experience administering Linux-based systems and cloud-native services
Proficiency in programming or scripting languages used for cloud engineering and data pipelines
Experience with source code management platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative development workflows
Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, security design, scalability, and cost optimization
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and solution design skills
Ability to communicate architectural concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Proficiency with source code management and collaboration tools such as Git-based repositories and issue tracking systems

Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate
Experience designing enterprise or large-scale cloud architectures with search, analytics, and data platforms
Experience supporting distributed computing, indexing, and data enrichment frameworks, including workload monitoring and performance tuning
Familiarity with semantic search, vector search, AI-powered enrichment, or natural language processing workloads
Autonomy/IDOL: Experience installing, configuring, administering the Autonomy and/or other search tools in multiple staging and production environments
Programming: proficiency in C#, .NET, Python, Java and JavaScript. Experience with web applications and web services (SOAP and REST) utilizing ASP.Net with C# and JAVA
