The Structural Design Engineer will support a collaborative organization by leading the development and review of engineering designs, ensuring compliance with design requirements, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management
Lead the development and review of engineering designs for new and replacement equipment installations including design details, equipment data sheets, equipment selection, calculations, installation instructions/specifications, post-modification testing and commissioning procedures, etc. to satisfy the applicable design requirements
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customer(s) to establish design requirements, scope, schedule, and cost
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
Minimum three (3) years of practical experience to the degree necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above
Structural engineering and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of computer-aided engineering tools to solve operations-based engineering problems
Design, analysis, and detailing of a wide variety of structural systems including steel, concrete, wood, cold-formed steel, and masonry
Implementation of seismic design principals in high seismic regions in accordance with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC and ACI requirements
Structural engineering software packages, preferably RISA3D, GTStrudl, SAP2000, or StaadPro, etc
Engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies
Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices
Microsoft software products (i.e., Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering work, planning, construction, and control methods
Ability to work in a dynamic environment as a member of a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers
Ability to collaboratively problem solve, show commitment, and function well in a team environment
Ability to support timely and collaborative construction execution
Preferred
Current registration possessing an Engineering Intern Certification/Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable
Design experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations
Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
Knowledge of construction materials, soils, concrete, asphalt, and the associated field and laboratory testing and inspection standards
Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes
Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures
