The role involves maintaining patient privacy and functioning as the focal communication source in the nursing station while handling various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities
Transcribes information onto patient charts, into log books and notes orders
Handles telephone calls (inside lines, outside lines, EMS calls and patient call system)
Prepares patient charges using physician notes, nursing notes and treatment documentation
Enters charges onto SMS computer terminal
Assembles charts, maintains department filing and orders supplies as needed
Enters patient charges
Directs visitors, staff, physicians and outside agency representatives to patient area
Performs typing duties as assigned
Schedules and prepares charges for outpatient procedures
Coordinates calls to special agencies as needed (e.g., police, animal control, etc.)
Orders patient nourishments as needed
Assists in data collection for monthly reports/assists with employee timekeeping
Enters test results into the patient chart during downtime
Completes transfer log and admission log
Runs errands when directed
Performs other department related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of keyboard/computer and typing experience
Data entry experience
Medical terminology knowledge
BLS certification within 3 months of hire
Preferred
Previous experience or training as Unit Clerk
