Responsibilities
Netting and handling fish on foot in streams and via boat in reservoirs
Operating a backpack electrofishing unit
Handling, measuring and tagging captured fish
Recording data
Hiking in rough terrain
Downloading instrument data
Manually entering data
Enumerate fish
Qualification
Required
Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year undergraduate educational program during their internship
Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship
Must hold a current valid state issued driver's license from any US state to be verified prior to start date
Interns must have a Washington State address and live in Washington State at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment
Preferred
Enrolled in an academic program with focus on fisheries, fish ecology, fish physiology, aquaculture, natural resources, biology, zoology or a related field
Understanding of basic water chemistry and water quality parameters important to sustaining aquatic organisms
Familiarity with or willingness to learn about distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar, battery storage, and demand response
Interest in renewable energy policy and the regulatory landscape affecting customer generation and community solar
Strong interest in community engagement and public service, especially in energy equity and environmental justice
Awareness of or interest in Race and Social Justice principles, particularly in the context of energy access and affordability
Demonstrated ability to support stakeholder engagement efforts, including organizing meetings, taking notes, and tracking feedback
Basic experience with data collection and analysis using Excel, or similar tools
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to summarize research and draft reports or outreach materials
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid or remote team environment
Organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn from cross-functional teams
