Staff Structural Engineer - Transmission & Distribution
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Structural Engineer to take control of their career potential in our California office. This role involves partnering with a multi-disciplinary team to develop designs of electrical substations, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the United States.

Responsibilities
Thinking creatively to address the complex challenges faced by the largest utilities and developers in North America
Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations, and secondary oil containment
Performing seismic design in the state of California and providing seismic qualification support
Providing support for our clients during construction
Performing field inspections and compliance documentation
Excelling in team environments and leading a team of single- or multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success
Presenting designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc
Corresponding and/or meeting with clients, contractors, and vendors
Participating in project proposal efforts
Advancing into project leadership roles
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus a minimum of three (3) years of structural engineering experience required
FE licensure also required
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Standard structural engineering techniques and procedures
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Structural analysis programs, RISA 3D, RISA FDN, HILTI, MFAD, RAM Connection, STAAD Pro, ETABS
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: CAD programs, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Performing rigid bus analysis and the design of electrical substation steel structures, equipment foundations, structure foundations and secondary oil containment
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Performing design and analysis in the state of California, adhering to seismic requirements and IEEE 693 seismic qualifications
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Performing field inspections and compliance documentation
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Leading a team of single- or multi-disciplinary professionals to ensure project success
Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in each of the following: Familiarity with ASCE 7, ASCE 113, and CBC
Alternatively, the employer will also accept a Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from an ABET-accredited program, plus a minimum of two (2) years of structural engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, plus a minimum of three (3) years of described experience
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in each of the following: Standard structural engineering techniques and procedures
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in each of the following: Structural analysis programs, RISA 3D, RISA FDN, HILTI, MFAD, STAAD Pro, ETABS
